Great Green Wall

"Make the Great Green Wall famous"

As part of our industry practice unit we were asked to use the various mediums at our disposal to drum up a lot of attention, for an initiative that was going to bring about change to the lives of millions across the Sahelo Sahelian band across the African continent from Senegal to Djibouti by creating resilience against deforestation and the slow advancement of the desert and also encouraging young people to stay instead of trying to reach Europe through a perilous journey.

Before I even embarked on this project the notion of utopia and dystopia has always appealed to me because they represent the extreme of an ideal society from both sides of the spectrum. The Guggenheim Bilbao, 1984 by George Orwell and Typeface design are all subjects belonging to very distinct disciplines like literature, typography and architecture. By combining architecture; literature; and typography this project allowed me to find a point of convergence between George Orwell's 1984 system of thought and control called Newspeak. By also using the Guggenheim Bilbao tiles as a grid system to and also a rule to make the typeface.
